Let Your Light Shine

"I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life."
                                                                 ~ Jesus (John 8:12)

But Jesus also used that term to refer to his disciples:

"You are the light of the world.
A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
                                                                 ~ Jesus (Matthew 5:14)

I wish Everyone can find the Light of Life...

Native American Christmas

«Looks for Buffalo, an Oglala Sioux spiritual leader, the full-blood Oglala grandson of Chief Red Cloud and White Cow Killer, and a Cheyenne Oglala leader, explains the meaning of Christmas to the traditional Indian people of the Americas:

“Traditional American Indians are raised to respect the Christian Star and the birth of the first Indian Spiritual Leader. He was a Star Person and Avatar. His name was Jesus. He was a Hebrew, a Red Man. He received his education from the wilderness. John the Baptist, Moses, and other excellent teachers that came before Jesus provided an educational foundation with the Holistic Method.”

“Everyday is our Christmas. Every meal is our Christmas. At every meal we take a little portion of the food we are eating, and we offer it to the spirit world on behalf of the four legged, and the winged, and the two legged. We pray–not the way most Christians pray– but we thank the Grandfathers, the Spirit, and the Guardian Angel.”

“The Indian Culture is actually grounded in the traditions of a Roving Angel. The life-ways of Roving Angels are actually the way Indian People live. They hold out their hands and help the sick and the needy. They feed and clothe the poor. We have high respect for the avatar because we believe that it is in giving that we receive.”

“We are taught as Traditional children that we have abundance. The Creator has given us everything: the water, the air we breathe, the earth as our flesh, and our energy force: our heart. We are thankful every day. We pray early in the morning, before sunrise, to the morning star, and the evening star. We pray for our relatives who are in the universe that someday they will come. We also pray that the Great Spirit’s son will live again.”

“To the Indian People Christmas is everyday and they don’t believe in taking without asking. Herbs are prayed over before being gathered by asking the plant for permission to take some cuttings. An offer of tobacco is made to the plant in gratitude. We do not pull the herb out by its roots, but cut the plant even with the surface of the earth, so that another generation will be born its place.”

“It is really important that these ways never be lost. And to this day we feed the elders, we feed the family on Christmas day, we honor Saint Nicholas. We explain to the little children that to receive a gift is to enjoy it, and when the enjoyment is gone, they are pass it on to the another child, so that they, too, can enjoy it. If a child gets a doll, that doll will change hands about eight times in a year, from one child to another.”

Everyday is Christmas in Indian Country. Daily living is centered around the spirit of giving and walking the Red Road. Walking the Red Road means making everything you do a spiritual act. If your neighbor, John Running Deer, needs a potato masher; and you have one that you are not using, you offer him yours in the spirit of giving. It doesn’t matter if it is Christmas or not.”

“If neighbors or strangers stop over to visit at your house, we offer them dinner. We bring out the T-Bone steak, not the cabbage. If we don’t have enough, we send someone in the family out to get some more and mention nothing of the inconvenience to our guests. The more one gives, the more spiritual we become. The Christ Consciousness, the same spirit of giving that is present at Christmas, is present everyday in Indian Country.”»

Blood Type

Blood is composed of cells suspended in a liquid-like substance called plasma.

Suspended in the plasma are three types of cells:

- Red blood cells carry oxygen
- White blood cells fight infection
- Platelets stop bleeding in injuries

blood type (also called a blood group) is a classification of blood based on the presence or absence of inherited antigenic substances on the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). These antigens may be proteins, carbohydrates, glycoproteins or glycolipids, depending on the blood group system. Some of these antigens are also present on the surface of other types of cells of various tissues. Several of these red blood cell surface antigens can stem from one allele (or very closely linked genes) and collectively form a blood group system.

Blood types are inherited and represent contributions from both parents. A total of 33 human blood group systems are now recognized by the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT). The two most important ones are ABO and the RhD antigen, they determine someone's blood type (A, B, AB and O, with +, − or Null denoting RhD status).

The most common type of grouping is the ABO (either uppercase or lowercase) grouping.

The varieties of glycoprotein coating on red blood cells divides blood into four groups:
- A (A oligosaccharide is present)
- B (B oligosaccharide is present)
- AB (A and B oligosaccharides are present)
- O (neither A nor B, only their precursor H oligosaccharide present)

Blood transfusion is generally the process of receiving blood products into one's circulation intravenously. Transfusions are used for various medical conditions to replace lost components of the blood. Early transfusions used whole blood, but modern medical practice commonly uses only components of the blood, such as red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, clotting factors and platelets.

Please share, this might be very useful in case of emergency

Health Recipes # 4 ~ Gingerbread Cut-Out Cookies

For those who like holidays cookies but also want healthy recipes, for this season ShiningSoul suggest Healthy Holiday Cookies like this "Gingerbread Cut-Out Cookies" found on EatingWell:

"This healthy gingerbread cut-out cookie recipe has all the flavor of traditional gingerbread cookies but incorporates white whole-wheat flour and uses less butter.

Pull out all your cookie cutters and decorate these adorable cookies with natural decorating sugar and icing.

INGREDIENTS:
COOKIE DOUGH
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup white whole-wheat flour (see Tips)
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup canola oil or corn oil
4 tablespoons unsalted butter, slightly softened
2/3 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses (not blackstrap)
1 large egg
Finely grated zest of 1 orange

DECORATION & ICING
1/2 cup clear or white sanding sugar (see Tips)
1 cup confectioners’ sugar, plus more as needed
1 tablespoon dried egg whites (see Tips)
2 tablespoons water
1/2 teaspoon light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
“Holiday” red natural liquid dye (see Tips)

PREPARATION

1. To prepare cookie dough: Whisk all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, cinnamon, ginger, baking powder, cloves and salt in a medium bowl. Beat oil, butter, brown sugar, molasses, egg and orange zest in a mixing bowl with an electric mixer on low speed until well blended.
2. With the mixer on low speed, then medium speed, beat about half the flour mixture into the wet ingredients until incorporated. Beat in the remaining flour mixture until just incorporated. Let the dough stand for 5 minutes. It should be somewhat firm, but not at all dry. If it seems overly sticky, stir in up to 2 additional tablespoons of all-purpose flour.
3. Divide the dough into thirds. Place one third on a 12-inch-long sheet of parchment paper and shape into a disk. Top with a second sheet of parchment. Roll the dough out between the parchment into an 8-inch circle about 1/4 inch thick. Place the dough in the paper on a baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining dough. Freeze on the baking sheet until cold and firm, at least 30 minutes and up to 1 day. Place another baking sheet in the freezer to chill too (it will be used under the dough as the cookies are cut out).
4. To shape & bake cookies: Position a rack in middle of oven; preheat to 350°F. Line a large baking sheet(s) with parchment paper.
5. Working with one portion of dough at a time, remove from the freezer and place on the chilled baking sheet. Remove the top sheet of parchment and cut out cookies with 2 1/2- to 3-inch cookie cutters. Transfer to a prepared baking sheet with a wide, thin spatula, spacing about 1 1/2 inches apart. Repeat with the remaining dough. (If the dough gets too soft, freeze until firm again. As you cut out cookies, set aside the scraps. Shape all the scraps back into a disk and reroll between parchment. Freeze for at least 30 minutes before cutting out.) Sprinkle the cookies with sanding sugar and gently pat to help it adhere.
6. Bake the cookies on the center rack, one pan at a time, until browned on the bottom, 6 to 12 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool.
7. To prepare icing & finish decorating cookies: Stir together confectioners’ sugar and dried egg whites in a small bowl. Stir in water, corn syrup and vanilla (or almond) extract and a few drops of red dye to create the desired color. Add a little more confectioners’ sugar if necessary to achieve a thicker consistency for piping. Spoon the icing into a pastry bag with a writing tip or into a small plastic bag with a tiny tip of one corner snipped off. Pipe decorations onto the cooled cookies. Let stand until the icing sets before storing the cookies."

Mantra #1 ~ "OM"

"Mantra" (Sanskrit मंत्र - «m.; also n. mantram» consists of the root man- "to think" and the suffix -tra, designating tools or instruments, hence a literal translation would be "instrument of thought") means a sacred utterance, numinous sound, or a syllable, word, phonemes, or group of words believed by some to have psychological and spiritual power. In other words "Mantra"  has two parts: man, which is the root of the Sanskrit word for mind; and tra, which is the root of the word instrument.
Jan Gonda, a widely cited scholar on Indian mantras, defines mantra as general name for the verses, formulas or sequence of words in prose which contain praise, are believed to have religious, magical or spiritual efficiency, which are meditated upon, recited, muttered or sung in a ritual, and which are collected in the methodically arranged ancient texts of Hinduism.
There is no universally applicable uniform definition of mantra because mantras are used in different religions, and within each religion in different schools of philosophy.
Mantra may or may not be syntactic or have literal meaning; the spiritual value of mantra comes when it is audible, visible, or present in thought.

They are typically melodic, mathematically structured meters, resonant with numinous qualities. In more sophisticated forms, they are melodic phrases with spiritual interpretations such as human longing for truth, reality, light, immortality, peace, love, knowledge and action. In other forms, they are literally meaningless, yet musically uplifting and spiritually meaningful.

Mantras were first written about in the ancient Vedic scriptures thousands of years ago - going back as far as 1000 B.C.. At that time, mantras were simply either a word or a collection of words or sounds aimed to be repeated to attain positive changes in life.

The most basic mantra is "Om", which in Hinduism is known as the "pranava mantra," the source of all mantras.

"Om" is a Sanskrit word that is meant to convey the “original vibration of manifestation” – in other words, when intention manifests in the physical realm.
According to the Vedic tradition, the ancient sages were able to hear the subtle vibrations produced by everything in nature―the sounds of the wind, thunder, butterflies, rushing rivers and all other creations. They recognized that these sounds are the manifestation of spirit into matter. They identified “Om” (or aum) as the most elemental sound, representing the infinite universal consciousness.

The Hindu philosophy behind this is the premise that before existence and beyond existence is only One reality, Brahma, and the first manifestation of Brahma expressed as Om. For this reason, Om is considered as a foundational idea and reminder, and thus is prefixed and suffixed to all Hindu prayers. Om is also considered the most sacred mantra and the most commonly used.

Om ( ॐ; in Devanagari as ओं oṁ [õː], औं auṃ [ə̃ũ], or ओ३म् om [õːm]) is a mantra and mystical sound of Hindu origin (geographically India and Nepal), sacred and important in various Dharmic religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Jainism. As to its precise graphic form, the Vedic or Indian om is what most Westerners are used to.

It is placed at the beginning of most Hindu texts as a sacred incantation to be intoned at the beginning and
end of a reading of the Vedas or prior to any prayer or mantra. It is used at the end of the invocation to the god being sacrificed to (anuvakya) as an invitation to and for the latter to partake of.

Hindus believe that as creation began, the divine, all-encompassing consciousness took the form of the first and original vibration manifesting as sound "OM".

The vibration of "OM" symbolises the manifestation of God in form ("sāguna brahman"). "OM" is the reflection of the absolute reality, it is said to be "Adi Anadi", without beginning or the end and embracing all that exists.

The mantra "OM" is the name of God, the vibration of the Supreme. When taken letter by letter, A-U-M
represents the divine energy (Shakti) united in its three elementary aspects: Bhrahma Shakti (creation), Vishnu Shakti (preservation) and Shiva Shakti (liberation, and/or destruction)

"Om" The sound of the universe. It's the first, original vibration, representing the birth, death and re-birth process.
For thousands of years, people have used this mantra to expand their awareness of the divine.
Chanting the sound OM brings us into harmonic resonance with the universe – this is a scientific fact! OM is said to vibrate at 432 Hertz, which is the natural musical pitch of the Universe, as opposed to 440 Hertz, which is the frequency of most modern music.

This is one word that anyone can feel comfortable using, no matter your spiritual inclinations. It is an incredibly soothing sound, especially when you allow the vibration to linger in your throat.
You can literally feel your body vibrate when you repeat this mantra for a little while...
For starters, you can focus on the silence from which "Om" originates and into which it dissipates. That will quickly give your mind something to focus on and help you enter and stay in meditation.

Ask God / Pergunte a Deus

"If you want anything – love, truth, or courage, for example – you must ask for it. If you ask God for anything humbly and lovingly, you will receive it. But you must ask with your whole heart, so that your heart can be empty and God can fill it. If there is any pride in it, he cannot fill it as much.
God wants to give you everything; you must learn how to let Him. For this you need surrender. The reward of surrender is bliss and knowledge. "  ~ Mother Meera

"Se você quer alguma coisa - o amor , a verdade, ou a coragem , por exemplo - você deve pedir por eles. Se você pedir a Deus por nada humilde e amorosamente , você vai recebê-lo.  Mas você deve pedir com todo o seu coração, de modo que o seu coração pode estar vazio e Deus pode preenchê-lo. Se houver algum orgulho nele, Ele não pode preenchê-lo tanto.

Deus quer-lhe dar tudo; você deve aprender a Deixá-lo. Para isso, você precisa se render. A recompensa da rendição é a bem-aventurança e o conhecimento." ~ Mãe Meera

Recipe type: Sore throat, Cold/Flu Remedy

Cold and flu season has begun, and with it the onslaught of sore throats, aches and coughs.

From ancient times people have used honey as a natural treatment for various illnesses and disease. This recipe is very common in Japan.

Honey and ginger can be successfully used in treating respiratory diseases. They both have string healing capacities but when taken together their benefits increase.

Furthermore, honey is an excellent medium for transmitting the benefits of herbs such as ginger to the body. Honey and ginger help rid the respiratory system of mucus and ginger also helps stop inflammation. This is also great for warding off the common cold and flu.

Both honey and ginger have their own individual health benefits and the combination of the two provides even more additional bonuses.

Honey helps fight infection and soothes inflamed tissue; is antibacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and high in antioxidants. Honey may also boost the body’s immune system by aiding in the production of white blood cells. This improves the body’s ability to fight infection and decreases the risk of fevers. The natural sweetness of honey also balances the tartness of the lemon and the ginger’s spice, giving honey, lemon and ginger tea its soothing flavor.

Ginger root promotes a healthy sweating that aids in the detoxification of the body, which is often helpful when you have a cold or flu helps fight the sore throat, cough, lung congestion, chills and stomach-ache that often accompanies the flu, is anti-inflammatory and helps soothe inflamed sinuses and throats. It also helps boost the body’s ability to absorb nutrients.

Lemons are full of healthful vitamin C which is an antioxidant vital to a strong immune system and neutralize the activity of free radicals in the body, reducing the inflammation and swelling caused by free radicals in the body; are antibacterial, anti-viral, and contain immune-boosting vitamins and minerals.

Boost your immune system and soothe your throat and sinuses with this all natural, easy to make, cheap, delicious-tasting cold and flu remedy.
